Where the Blades Cross
Deep navy and a point of silver-white light: that is nearly all of Where the Blades Cross. A low sun at Quail Ridge Park in Wentzville, Missouri, opens into a starburst behind tall meadow grass, and every blade and seed head carries a thin line of dew that catches the light.
Two long blades cross in front of the sun and the eye follows them. It starts at the sun, runs up the long diagonal to the feathered seed heads, and settles on the tall blade at right. Below, a dark treeline and a few wildflower heads hold the horizon. The foreground goes almost black, so the dew shows only as a fine edge of sparkle along each stem.
This is quiet, light-first landscape photography in the lineage of Wynn Bullock and Ernst Haas, attentive to what a few minutes of low morning sun does to an ordinary field.
Design & Styling
The deep blue palette and strong silhouettes suit hospitality lobbies, restaurants and hotel corridors, design-led offices, and modern homes with charcoal, dark wood or warm neutral walls. A vertical print works on a narrow wall, beside a doorway, or in a stairwell. As a Missouri image, it is a natural keepsake for anyone with ties to St. Louis and St. Charles County.
Curated Pairings
For shared dawn light: Pair with Frostline, Kansas (Panorama), where cold prairie morning light finds frost on a field in the same way this finds dew on the grass.
For shared moisture and morning: Pair with Hoarfrost, Kansas, the frozen version of the same idea, with the moisture of the night held on every surface before the sun reaches it.
For shared dark silhouette: Pair with The Last Goodbye, a dark tree silhouette against a pre-dawn sky, where this has dark grass against a rising sun.
For shared sun and silhouette: Pair with Quiet Cove, Aruba, a sunset silhouette in warm color that answers this cool-blue sunrise.
Fine Art Presentation
Available as a signed, numbered limited edition print (edition of 15) in Gallery Metal, ChromaLuxe® Metal (Gloss, Semi-Gloss and Matte), TruLife Acrylic, archival paper, canvas, and wood. ChromaLuxe® Metal in Gloss is the first recommendation: it keeps the dew sparkle crisp and the starburst clean against the deep blue. TruLife (Low-Glare) Acrylic is a strong alternate that deepens the blacks of the silhouettes. Archival paper, framed, suits a quieter, more traditional presentation.
Note: Custom and oversized photographic prints are available. Please contact the studio directly to discuss custom framing, matting, or specialized museum glass options.
