Reading in the Rain finds a single figure seated on a stone block in the Louvre's vast courtyard, absorbed in a page while I.M. Pei's glass Pyramid and the palace's Baroque facade rise behind her. It's a rainy December afternoon in Paris — the pavement wet and reflective, the sky a low ceiling of cloud — and around her, the ordinary business of a public plaza continues: tourists posing for photos, a couple walking past, the city indifferent to any one person's stillness.

The frame is shaped by an intentional asymmetry — darker and more enclosed on the left, where a wrought-iron lamppost anchors the composition, opening toward lighter, more spacious ground on the right, where two figures walk on toward whatever comes next.
