Before the Crush was photographed in the hills of Chianti, one or two days before the Sangiovese grapes came off the vine — the fruit at its absolute peak, still carrying a faint sheen from rain the day before. Deep blue-purple clusters catch strong directional light against a backdrop of drying autumn leaves and a weathered wooden vineyard post, the kind of working, unglamorous structure that holds up an entire harvest.
The dried leaf curling at the top of the frame isn't incidental — it's a seasonal marker, the vine naturally shedding color in the final days before crush.
