Some structures do their work above your head. What the Arch Carries looks up into a stone arch beside the Čertovka channel in Prague, where a curved lining of dark, rain-wet timber follows the masonry and steady autumn rain falls on the water below.
The composition is built on one long curve. The arch sweeps across the frame from the upper left, its timber ribs echoing the line of the stone, while rain drips from the underside and rings the water below. Through the opening the eye passes to rust and green autumn foliage and red-tiled rooftops along the narrow channel, then drops to the dark, rain-stippled surface. A weathered green lantern at lower right and ivy at the frame's edge add small, quiet notes of color, the kind of detail that rewards a longer look.
Drawing on the atmospheric sensibilities of Ernst Haas and the observational approach of Wim Wenders, the image is less about Prague as a destination than about standing inside the city during an ordinary moment of rain, noticing what the stone and timber above have quietly carried.
